Puppy Classes

Puppy Preschool

(8-16 weeks at the start of class)

Puppies are like sponges in their first few months of life, actively learning about the world around them with each new experience. Early training and socialization during this crucial period of development is the key to having a well-behaved, confident adult dog who is welcome everywhere. Our puppy classes are an excellent way to ensure your new pup has loads of FUN learning these all-important life skills.

Duration: 6 weeks; week 1 is a humans-only orientation

Tuition: $170 - includes free attendance at puppy socials for the duration of class

Vaccination Requirements: Distemper & Parvovirus 1st round administered at least one week prior to start of class, Rabies (if age appropriate), Bordetella (optional)

 

Puppy Socials

There is a small window of opportunity for socialization in puppies - don't miss it! Our drop-in puppy socials are a great way to ensure your new pup has plenty of opportunity to hone those social skills and meet a wide variety of other pups and people. A certified trainer is always there to supervise play and ensure that every puppy has a blast at social! Open to all puppies ages 8-16 weeks with age-appropriate vaccinations.  

Socials take place on:

  • Thursdays at 5pm
  • Saturdays at 10am

Cost: $10 per dog (puppies currently enrolled in our classes attend socials for free)

Vaccination Requirements: Distemper & Parvovirus 1st round administered at least one week prior to attending social, Rabies (if age appropriate), Bordetella (optional) Please bring a copy of your dog's most recent vet records with you.

Puppy Intermediate

(16 weeks up to 6 months)

If your pup has recently graduated from our Puppy Preschool course and you’re itching to continue training, this course is for you! Continued off-leash play and socialization as well as lots of opportunity to practice and strengthen the behaviors you learned in preschool. We’ll also add some new skills to your pup’s repertoire that will be very useful as he grows into a bigger, stronger, more opinionated teenager.

Basic Manners Classes

The Family Dog*

(4 months and up)

Want a dog who walks nicely on leash, doesn’t jump all over your guests, and won’t try to steal your dinner off your plate? Our family dog class is designed for friendly adolescent and adult dogs who could use some help polishing up their manners. We teach all the basic behaviors using fun exercises and games so that you can have a dog who is truly a joy to live with!

** This class is designed for dogs who are friendly towards people, children, and other dogs. If your dog is fearful, aggressive, or you need help with a specific behavioral problem not covered under the class curriculum, please send us an email and we'll help you figure out which training format or class is right for your dog.

Wild Things (You Make My Heart Sing!)

(5 months and up)

Do you have a teenage dog that is familiar with the basics (sit, down, stay, come), but still has a LOT to learn? Does your dog jump on guests, pull on leash, or dive into the trash at the first opportunity? This class is designed to help you tame the wild beast. You and your teen will be introduced to games that work WITH rather than against their teenage energy, while building self-control. We will help you continue to manage their adolescent development and polish that diamond in the rough!

Prerequisite: Successful completion of either Puppy Intermediate or The Family Dog

Duration: 4 weeks; dogs attend all 4 weeks

(5 months and up)

Beyond the Basics

(6 months and up)

Done a basic training course but want to keep learning? Beyond the Basics is an intermediate-level obedience course. Fine-tune all the skills your dog learned in Puppy Intermediate or The Family Dog. Plenty of flexibility in the curriculum means we can customize the curriculum based on what you want your dog to learn and excel at!

Out and About

(6 months and up)

Our most advanced obedience course. Take all the skills you’ve learned in previous classes and put them into practice in real-world situations on Church Street, at the waterfront, and around busy downtown Burlington. Your well-behaved dog will be the talk of the town!

**This class is outdoors and only runs in the warmer months. In case of inclement weather we will meet at a dog-friendly store instead of outside.

 

Specialty Classes

Reactive Rover*

(5 months and up)

For dogs who bark, growl, or lunge at other dogs on leash walks - this one's for you! Learn to expertly manage your dog around other on-leash dogs, and help your dog learn to relax when he sees other dogs while you are out on walks around town.

Prerequisite: None

Duration: 6 weeks; week 1 is a humans-only orientation.

Tuition: $170

Vaccination Requirements: Distemper & Parvovirus, Rabies, Bordetella (optional)

**This class is not appropriate for dogs who only exhibit aggression toward other dogs while off-leash, or who exhibit aggression toward people. If you are looking for help with either of these issues, private training is the way to go.

Wallflowers Shy Dog Class

(5 months and up)

Wallflowers is a foundation course for shy dogs who are nervous around new people, in new environments, or who can’t enjoy common dog activities downtown because of their anxieties. We’ll provide the calm and quiet classroom environment to help your dog feel safe, and teach you tools to help your wallflower blossom. 

Prerequisite: None

Duration: 4 weeks; dogs attend all 4 weeks

Take A Bow! Tricks Class

(all ages and abilities)

Bored of regular obedience classes? Already taken all of our other courses and want to keep going? Just looking for something fun to do with your dog? Take A Bow is a beginner level course with lots of flexibility so that your dog learns whichever tricks you want to show off to friends and family at your next gathering! Here are some options to whet your palate:

AKC Canine Good Citizen Prep Class

Practice the 10 test items you and your dog need to pass to get your dog’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate. The CGC program, developed by the American Kennel Club (AKC), is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The CGC Program is open to mixed breed and purebred dogs, and stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.

We will practice for 5 weeks and the test will be offered during the 6th week.

  • Meet a friendly person
  • Accept grooming and petting
  • Walk on a loose leash past distractions (dogs, crowds)
  • Sit / Down / Stay / Come

Prerequisite: Successful completion of either Beyond the Basics, Out & About or instructor permission

Duration: 6 weeks; dogs attend all 6 weeks
